====== Ultrasonic Wind Sensors ====== ====== Calypso ====== ULP Model: The user manual is short, badly written, and uses Comic Sans. Not sure, would need to check videos / ask him. Ultrasonic_Portable_User_Manual_EN.pdf: The application areas page says it can be used for wind power, agriculture, cranes, and security, but the warranty section says leisure use only. ''What happen if my unit gets blocked? The ULTRASONIC PORTABLE restarts after 10 minutes thanks to the system called “watchdog”. You simply have to reset the application again and it will work again correctly. ''
Well…….to follow up I’ve abandoned the calypso system. The first nmea connect plus I purchased was DOA coupled with no interest in supporting it from anyone. The second nmea connect plus I purchased had an effective range of roughly 2’ even though the published specs put the Bluetooth range at 50 meters in free space. https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f13/calypso-ultrasonic-wind-201270-3.html#post3527856The manual says it is open source hardware. I emailed to ask them, and they said: ''There must have been a misunderstanding, what is "open" to third parties is the communication protocol and access to the readings.'' ====== LCJ Capteurs ====== Positive comments on [[https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f13/reliable-wind-sensors-281685.html|cruisers forum. ]] RRP 660 EUR inc VAT * Measurement range: * Wind speed: 0.25 to 80 knots * Wind angle: 0 to 359° * Temperature: -15°C (without icing) to +55°C * Measurement sensitivity: * Wind speed: 0.25 knots * Wind angle: +/-1° * Air temperature: +/- 1°C * Operating temperature: –15°C (without icing) to +55°C * NMEA0183® sentences * IIMWV: Angle, Wind speed and Measurement validity * WIXDR: Air temperature * PLCJ: manufacturer’s data * PLCJE: manufacturer’s data * Transmission speed: Bd 4800 * ====== Airmar PB200 ====== Moderate comments on cruisers forum. They say it is not racing grade accuracy. ====== Maretron WSO200 ====== SRP ~600 EUR with VAT. Possibly good? I don't believe the temperature can be accurate though without a screen. Maybe the top cap shades a thermometer in the middle of the base? Interestingly uses two transducers per corner. [[https://www.maretron.com/products/pdf/WSO200%20Datasheet.pdf]]
